Dear Solar Friend,
As we look ahead for 2013, the board of Solar Nova Scotia has recognized a need to bring our membership list up to date in order to be able to offer a more complete program to all. As a non-profit group, we rely on the generosity of solar supporters like you, and, with that in mind, we are asking you to support us with your membership for the coming year.
If you're ready to take this step,you can skip to the bottom of this letter and follow the link. If you still need some convincing, read on because there are some great reasons to be a Solar Nova Scotia member! Here are some of our recent and on-going activities:
- Created our first ever Industry Committee to build policy and best practices for solar installations
- Advised HRM on the SolarCity program and on the new permitting process
- Presented to HRM on the advantages of subdivisions designed for solar
- Generated meetings with the province on solar and energy policy
- Sold over 200 Canadian Solar Home Design Manuals,now c/o PayPal
- Published in Europe as the "Solar Home Design Manual for Cool Climates"
- Continuing to educate the public at the Halifax home shows
- Gave dozens of lectures on active and passive design
- Completed our Design & Construction courses with more than 100 participants
- Continued our informal, Friday evening information sessions (5:00 at the Lion's Head Tavern)
- Facilitated ongoing solar discussion on our new Facebook page with more than 200 members
- Tours of NSCC renewable projects and advanced 'solar' homes
- Engaged the NS Dept. of Energy on solar policy
- Completed a policy paper on feed-in tarrifs (FIT) for PV in Nova Scotia
We're currently working on:
- Evaluation of a possible e-version of our Solar Home Design Manual
- Educational fact sheets on photo-voltaics, solar air and water heating in partnership with Efficiency NS
- New ways to deliver education program to our publics
- A vision for the future of Solar Nova Scotia with member input
- Continued involvement with the ComFit review
Our volunteer Board of Directors includes individuals from all sides of the solar spectrum, and we remain committed to building a quality organization to advance our objectives. However, we need your support and involvement to continue down this road.
